We all have something to offer
It’s great, isn’t it, when toddlers’ groups thrive, youth clubs prosper, community gardens flourish and the horrible things rich and poor share – like loneliness, bereavement, dementia and mental health issues – are handled sensitively by neighbours who really care.
But it’s not the kind of thing that happens by accident. It takes real effort, and quite often a little bit of cash.
That is why two of the oldest charities in London – charities that have both worked in Hammersmith and Fulham for 400 years – have come together to form UNITED. Our job is to galvanise people into devoting the time, money, effort and brainpower needed to create strong communities for all of us.
- Support our vulnerable neighbours, whoever they are
- Help people change their lives for the better
- Create a safe and thriving neighbourhood for everybody
Here at UNITED, we believe that everybody has something to offer. We want to involve every part of the community: the young, the old, the sporty, the artists and musicians, the listeners and mentors, the harassed parents and the carers, regardless of age or ethnicity.
We want to get behind those activities that might take place in a community centre, that help you get to know your neighbours and that give you a better chance of having someone to talk to when you have a bigger problem.
We want to make the kind of connections that mean someone will call on you if you haven’t been seen around for a while, and do the kind of things that alleviate loneliness and support good mental health.
We want to help everybody to be a better neighbour.
Dr Edwards and Bishop King's Fulham Charity
Changing conditions over the past 400 years have shifted how the Trust helps those in need. The provision of bread and beef has been superseded by the provision of direct help to individuals and families in need, by funding local organisations which are involved in providing help to the poor, aged or incapacitated.Find out more
